Andy Wignall Wins Lincs Closed

The final of the Men's Singles was one of the best match seen in the Championships for many years. Lincolns Andy Wignall meet Brian Hill from Boston and they treated the audience to a three match thriller. Andy took the first game 21-19 and Brian fought back well to take the second game by the same score 21-19. The third game looked all but over when Andy took a 18-12 lead but Brian fought back to level the score at 18 all and then won the next two points to lead 20-18. Andy was determined that he would not lose the chance of winning the title for the second time and with some impressive hitting from both wings took the title 22-20.

ETTA AGM VOTES ON 11 UP RULE

At a Special General meeting of the ETTA , held in Loughborough, the meeting overwhelmingly voted in favour of the resolution relating to the ETTA APPROVED LAWS OF TABLE TENNIS. This means that Local Leagues and County Associations can exercise their option to diverge from the NEW LAWS RELATING TO THE 11-UP POINTS TO A GAME and retain the original 21-up, until a future ETTA AGM or Special General Meeting shall overturn this decision. The voting was For: 21,997 Against: 3,964. i.e. 84.7% in favour of keeping the 21-up for the "grass roots" player. The interesting feature of the debate surrounding this motion, was that the majority of persons present were in favour of NOT allowing the 21-up to continue, but like myself, were mandated to vote as above.
